Specialist Conservation

Henry Sanders, brings considerable experience of specialist conservation to Hestia Architects. He undertook the SPAB Scholarship in 2012, a Post Graduate Diploma in Architectural Conservation at the Edinburgh College of Art 2007-09 and has spent over a decade working in the industry. During this time he has worked on multiple conservation projects for Donald Insall Associates, Caroe Architecture, Acanthus Clews Architects and Hugh Harrison Conservation.

In situations where the heritage asset is especially vulnerable, conservation demands a specialized level of knowledge and expertise in specific areas. In these situations it is necessary for the Architect to engage in a more detailed manner than would normally be the case. This often means working closely with craftsmen, conservators, specialist consultants and suppliers to put together bespoke specifications and repair strategies, this is reliant on the ability of the Architect to understand the detail of the mechanisms which are in action.

The following projects provide an indication of the breadth of experience that Henry brings to Hestia Architects:

  • Specialist stone conservation upon the uniquely significant 1290’s Northampton Queen Eleanor Cross, the fourteenth century King’s Sutton Church spire and the sixteenth century Reigate stone conservation project at Hampton Court Palace.
  • Stained glass conservation at the King’s Sutton Church Windows project, working closely with Holy Well Glass.
  • Conservation of bespoke timberwork through the Survey of the sixteenth century King’s College Chapel choir stalls, working for Hugh Harrison Conservation.
  • Sensitive wall paintings conservation at Little Missenden Church.
  • Specialist metalwork conservation to the late eighteenth century railings at the Archer’s Pavilion and to the seventeenth-eighteenth century railings at Hampton Court Palace.
  • Conservation of precious sixteenth-seventeenth century brickwork at the Real Tennis Court, Hampton Court Palace.
  • Addressing environmental concerns with a mind to the stabilisation of historic interiors at Hampton Court Palace, Wrest Park, Archer’s Pavilion, Landguard Fort and Marble Hill House.

We are confident that whatever the conservation challenges that you face, Hestia Architects can assist and guide you forward, in protecting and conserving our valuable heritage for future generations.
